How McDonald’s Failed During the LA #ShamrockShake #Earthquake

If you’re a business owner, that should be the first thing on your mind.

Big businesses pay millions of dollars for marketing campaigns to try and get you to notice them in this noisy, always-on digital world that we are living in.

This morning there was an earthquake in Los Angeles. It’s all over twitter. In fact, it’s still trending. It’s also St. Patrick’s Day and many are calling the event the #ShamrockShake.  McDonald’s has a limited release milkshake it is trying to sell right now called the Shamrock Shake.  Now why on earth is McDonald’s twitter team not running a promotion right now via twitter using the hashtag #ShamrockShake?

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It’s called news jacking and businesses capitalize on it all the time…in fact…what am I doing right now?

News jacking is the most inexpensive form of advertising out there.  It’s cost…free.  But what is McDonald’s taking about on twitter? Bacon
